Introduction to Natural Dyeing
A Two-Day Hands-On Workshop
Discover the beauty and magic of creating colour from plants in this immersive two-day introduction to natural dyeing. This workshop will guide you through the essential techniques and science behind transforming natural fibres with leaves, flowers, and other plant materials.
You'll learn how to prepare fabrics for lasting colour, explore eco-printing and bundle-dyeing techniques, and gain an understanding of the materials, tools, and processes needed to continue dyeing confidently at home. Through a combination of demonstrations and hands-on practice, you'll create your own naturally dyed textiles while learning about colourfastness, plant selection, and simple resist techniques.
All materials and equipment are provided, and participants will leave with two hand-dyed organic cotton bandanas, beautiful eco-printed paper, and the knowledge and confidence to continue exploring the art of natural dyeing using botanicals from their own gardens and local landscapes.
Day One — Fundamentals & Theory: Foundations of natural dyeing and fabric preparation

If you cancel at least 4 days in advance of the workshop, we can give you a full refund. If you cancel within 4 days of the workshop, we will refund 75% of the fee.

| Instructor Bio: | Liz has had a lifelong love of fibre, textiles, and gardening. About five years ago, while looking for a way to extend the beauty of her garden beyond the growing season, she discovered botanical printing and natural dyeing—a practice that perfectly blended her passions for plants and cloth. After training at Maiwa School of Textiles and completing courses with other natural dye educators, Liz has immersed herself in the fascinating world of botanical colour. She is especially inspired by traditional dyeing practices from around the world and has sought out opportunities to learn from textile artisans during her travels, including visits with cloth makers, weavers, and block printers in Ghana and Guatemala. These experiences deepened her appreciation for the rich cultural history and artistry behind the world of cloth. Today, Liz shares her passion by teaching botanical dyeing from her home in qathet, British Columbia, the ancestral and contemporary homelands of the Tla’amin Nation. She loves introducing others to the wonder of transforming leaves, flowers, bark, and other plants into beautiful, lasting colour on cloth, and believes there is a little magic in every dye pot. When she's not dyeing, you'll likely find Liz hiking forest trails or swimming in the ocean with her dogs, sewing her next project, tending her garden, or enthusiastically talking her friends' ears off about textiles, plants, and all things creative |
