Cyanotype Printmaking Demo

Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing processes around — and one of the most magical. Using light-sensitive chemistry and good old sunlight, you can turn leaves, flowers, lace, and other found objects into a striking, deep-blue print in just minutes. In this free outdoor session, we'll walk you through making your very own cyanotype postcard from start to finish.

We'll cover:

How cyanotype printing works — the science behind the sun-sensitive chemistry and that signature Prussian blue color
Composing your print — choosing and arranging objects to create contrast and detail
Exposing your postcard — timing your print in the sun and watching it develop before your eyes
Rinsing & finishing — setting your print so the blue stays vivid and permanent
